At the initiative of my good friend Benjamin Kimera, a GoFundMe was opened to help me cover the very high fees of getting surgery for lipedema. Since this campaign was American, the process was getting a little too complicated and overwhelming with everything else we have to deal with.
I had to transfer the money to one of my cousins who lives in Florida, for her to transfer me the money so I could then deposit the amount into the account where my mom and I took a loan to pay for the first surgery since it was urgent.
Also, many friends, colleagues and family requested to have access to a French version of the platform so with this Canadian version, this is now a possibility.
I want to thank Ben from the bottom of my heart for his help but also for his support in not being ashamed to ask for help when needed. I just went through my first surgery on May 30 and the second one is scheduled for August 20.
Again, thank you to all of you who donated. Because of you, I was able to cover the transport, lodging, food and deposit of the first surgery. Now, we look towards the second one as I’m recovering.
