I’m too heartbroken to put together my own words about the 18,000 cows that burned to death at a dairy farm earlier this week, so here are so here are some very excellent ones said by Dr Barnard.

18,000 cows were killed in a fire on a Texas dairy farm. The cows were in a holding pen getting ready to be milked when they were burned alive and could not escape.
This is horrible, but there are things that go on every day at dairies that should be enough for us not to support the industry.
In order to produce milk, cows are artificially inseminated. When they give birth, the male calves are killed for veal and the female calves are raised in isolation until they are old enough to also be artificially inseminated. Cows can live to be around 20 years old, but after around 4 years on a dairy farm they are sold for slaughter.
Milk and other dairy products are the top source of saturated fat in the American diet, contributing to heart disease, type 2 diabetes, and Alzheimer’s disease. Studies have also linked dairy to an increased risk of breast, ovarian, and prostate cancers.
Meat and dairy is also bad for the planet. Methane from the meat and dairy industry is produced from manure and the digestion process of animals such as cows, sheep, and goats. Experts say that cutting emissions from methane, which is relatively short-lived but has around 80 times more warming potential than carbon dioxide, is critical in preventing catastrophic climate change.
So ditch the dairy and meat. It’s good for the cows, it’s good for you, and it’s good for the environment.
