Kelley Carter Instagram – Did I walk away with the big Broadcast Journalist of the Year award from the National Arts and Entertainment Journalism Awards last night? I did not. But I really need you all to understand how big of a victory it was for me to even be nominated and to even be a finalist. I know that we don’t see a lot of people who look like me on TV and I cherish the messages I get from strangers I’ll never meet who tell me how seen they feel by my presence. To me, that’s such a victory. And to have my bosses at GMA3 and ABC News see value in my work enough to even submit me for such an award makes me want to tear up. So thank you for all the well wishes and kind words and who knows? Maybe next year or the year after or the year after that I’ll get to take that big prize home. And if not, that’s ok too.
