Krystina Alabado Instagram – 🤍 One year ago today, on January 30, 2020, I said goodbye to my best friend and Mother, Nayla after her year-long battle with Stage 4 Lung Cancer 🤍
Leading up to this anniversary, what kept coming to my brain through the grief and pain that I have felt from her diagnoses 2 years ago, watching her go through clinical trials, radiation, chemotherapy, being poked and prodded, having nothing left to give, but still flying from Arizona to NYC to come see me in Mean Girls in between treatments…she never once complained. She never once got angry, or played the “why me” game. She smiled, and loved, and believed, and kept fighting with grace and patience through it all. And that I believe was her final, and greatest lesson she taught me. Moving forward without her has been and will be the biggest challenge of my life. But I will do it, and do it with a smile because that is what she left for us to live by.
So today, as my mother would want, I am going to smile. I am going to sit in the sun and think of her. I am going to fight and not give up and dance to her favorite songs and LIVE. For her. To honor her. And to continue her legacy because she lives in me and I feel it.
Our family would like to celebrate her life and honor her today by raising money for the cancer center she was treated at, Banner Health MD Anderson Cancer Center in Gilbert, Arizona. She spent 46 days in the hospital at the end and her nurses in particular fell in love with her and became close with her over that time. They loved her so much and cried with us that morning she passed away. To know the care and kindness they showed her, and to our family those last few days, is something we will never ever forget.
