Many of you might know Renowned Artist, and Black Queer Activist @staceyannchin 🌈 In many circles, she needs no introduction, but perhaps you haven’t heard of her amazing work.

Staceyann and I met around 8 years ago in a political event for @peoples_history in which I immediately realized she was a force of nature. We became instant friends & soul sisters. I later learned that a homophobic driven attack led her to leave her native country, Jamaica, and move to NY where she thrived as a Spoken Word Artist, Poet and Writer. There’s few people as visceral with her words.

Staceyann is also a sweet, funny, caring mother, friend and colleague AND a published author; in fact her memoir “The Other Side of Paradise” is quite a gem that I highly recommend.

Since the pandemic, she’s been back in Jamaica, giving her daughter Zuri a much different upbringing than her own (read her memoir) and also reconnecting with her country from a loving place. As a Dominican woman living in NY for 20 years and now back for a few years, I can so relate to this.

With her own hands, she created @kindredontherock, defined as a homestead for artists, activists & freedom lovers. The community is now in need of a common space, where it can have agricultural trainings/meetings, kids can do homework and social activities can happen. So she’s building a large common room/space that might work as a Community Center… and she needs HELP! I said I would help, and also extend an invitation to you all to send any amount. ANY. Even $5 (the price of a Small Starbucks) would help. This woman is making an impact: normalizing queerness in spaces that are not as welcoming and also bringing Art & Education to kids that have very little resources.
