Leeann Tweeden Instagram – Please take the time to remember our fallen this Memorial Day. It’s easy to get caught up in our barbecues and picnics, but let’s not forget the real reason for having an extra day off work…it is our time to respect and honor those men and women who died while serving in the United States Armed Forces.

The holiday, which is celebrated every year on the final Monday of May, was formerly known as Decoration Day and originated after the American Civil War to commemorate the Union and Confederate soldiers who died in the Civil War.

By the 20th century, Memorial Day had been extended to honor all Americans who have died while in the military service.

On Memorial Day in 2010, my husband (who was temporarily stationed in Germany for the Air Force) and I made it a point to drive to the small country of Luxembourg to visit The Luxembourg American Cemetery and Memorial. It’s was very cold and raining heavily but it was the only chance we had to visit. So we bundled up and grabbed our umbrellas and paid our respects. We were the only visitors except for 2 groundskeepers.

Luxembourg is also the place where General Patton is buried. It was his request that after he died, he wanted ‘to be buried with my men.’

Let’s never forget. #memorialday #rememberthefallen | Posted on 28/May/2024 05:26:17
