Maria Doyle Kennedy Instagram – Would anybody like to buy a cushion that I made with my friend Anna? We began making them a while ago and during the lock-downs they became the creative outlet that kept me sane. I am constantly gathering the makings…… fabrics from the places we travel to work, old tapestries ( sometimes unfinished so I get to add my own colours) , lucky clothes that need to be remembered , ribbons and silks , pieces of beauty. The cushions have only been given as gifts up to now but folks have been asking if they could buy one……I’m not really sure how to go about that but I did make a label “JOY MECHANIC” ( which is a line from a new song) and I thought I could maybe offer a couple for sale with the proceeds going to @medicalaidpal . 1- the first cushion features fabric I got in CapeTown while filming Recipes for L&M, ribbon from a friend, a remnant of blue liberty silk and embroidery from an old picture.
2- second cushion embroidered yellow and orange flower tapestry that was part of an old fire screen, velvet and satin ribbon and goldy coloured shot fabric .
The cushions are not perfect ( I include a close up of my hand stitching ) but they are made with enormous amounts of love.
