Went to the union meeting last night and picketed this morning and I’m learning so much about how reasonable our asks are.
For just one example we wanted parameters around AI. We’re not luddites. This isn’t some Y2K shit. We just don’t want idea generation from AI (doing a punch up on an AI script forever is NOT IT) and we don’t want AI to mine our voices, essentially learning from us, using us without permission or residuals to make us obsolete.
Meanwhile the studios are saying they don’t want to preempt technology that they want to take advantage of and they countered with: we agree to annual meetings to discuss.
Writing is taxing, lonely and for some of us the only fucking thing we can do and want to do with our lives.
I’m not a joiner. I don’t like crowds. Confrontation makes me itchy but this is important. They’re making it impossible to make a career of this work. They want to make a gig economy of art. I cannot stand for it. So I stand with my union. | Posted on 04/May/2023 23:43:27
