A little story… 📖
My son James is taking public speaking 🎤 in middle school. 🏫 I was helping him prep for his big speech when he got frustrated and said to me, “Mom, what do you know about public speaking?! You just go on the TODAY show.” 😜
I laughed and lamely tried to defend my honor. Although he’d joined me on 📺for countless segments over the years, he’d never actually seen me own a stage for more than 5 minutes, dropping some fully charged knowledge. ⚡️He had no proof.🕵️
Serendipitously, I had a speaking engagement the VERY NEXT morning. I called the organizer last-minute, asked permission to bring James, then pulled him out of class. He happily changed into “handsome clothes” and sat in the front row at the sold-out luncheon for the Sisters of Charity.
James smiled at me the whole time with his big Jamesy dimples, nodding when I got laughs; high-fiving me afterward for my slow, articulate delivery, dramatic pauses and eye contact. He loved my audience interaction and thought the pacing and visuals were on point. “Wow, Mom, you’re the G.O.A.T. You’ve got “rizz.”
