In February, Greece became the first majority Orthodox Christian country to legalize same-sex marriage. And the weddings have begun!
A lawyer and an author were the first gay couple to have their civil ceremony in capital city Athens’ City Hall – and they even had the MAYOR as their officiant!
He called the nuptials a “historic moment”, and said every citizen of Athens “should be able to live and love in the way they choose”. Hear, hear!
Though, unsurprisingly, the actual Orthodox CHURCH disagrees! Church officials on the Greek island of Corfu imposed a religious BAN on a pair of local lawmakers who voted for legalization!
