Misha Highstead Instagram – It seems that Americans get a lot of their news from social media, even if that ISN’T their plan! A majority of users on Facebook, Instagram, and TikTok say that keeping up with the news is NOT a reason why they use those platforms.
Now, X-slash-Twitter is somewhat of an exception. Among its users, twenty-five percent say getting news is a major reason they’re on there, while another forty percent say it’s a minor reason.
But regardless of WHY people use social media, all of them overwhelmingly report seeing news-related content there.
Now, MOST of that seems to be in form of people’s opinions and funny posts about current events. But there are of course also news articles, breaking stories… and the Bikini Report!
And it’s hard to know how much of a problem this is, especially if they’re aware of it… but most of these consumers say the news they’re seeing is at least sometimes inaccurate.
