Nicola Correia Damude Instagram – “My inspiration is love. I realize how much I love my Life, my Country my Parents.” This is how the incredible Ukrainian artist Eva Holts describes her motivation to create art during the war in her Country. Eva’s apartment was burned down in the early months of the conflict and she was isolated from her parents in another city whose home was hit by shelling. But as she shared her work with me via Zoom from her new home, and talked to me about her process and motivations, I was struck by her ability to keep perspective and find inspiration in the midst of the change and chaos around her. Eva describes herself as someone who has always found artistic inspiration in Dreams. Dreams of sadness and great emotion, where she creates subconscious imaginary worlds that she then translates into art during her waking hours. I found this fascinating because my first gut reaction to her pieces was an intense discomfort but also a kind of familiarity and recognition that I found very exciting and moving. Entirely in keeping with the complex, subconscious worlds and images that she describes. I’ll be posting more about Eva and her work in the coming days but Eva is just one of the incredible Ukrainian artis featured at the “Fight with Art” charity auction currently being held online through @festivaltkrakow I am very proud to be an Auction Ambassador for #FightWithArt which is a global online charity Art Auction to help Ukraine and the Ukrainian people.
