Nikki Griffin Instagram – In the fall of 2020, during the height of the pandemic, I was doom scrolling on TikT0k and heard the teaser for Stick Season, a song which would become my #1 streamed song for 2022 (the year the single dropped) and again in 2023. It’s wild to watch an artist shoot from going viral on TikT0k to selling out the iconic Hollywood Bowl 2 nights in a row in just 2 years! What a ride that must be!
He released the full album, Stick Season, in 2022 and it really moved me. It reminded me of love lost and a time when my life seemed so uncertain. There are several songs about addiction, depression, and suicide (the last two being issues with which I’m intimately acquainted), and he’s the same age now that I was when I was struggling just to get through the day. And it was so wonderful to share that experience with my friend, Jennie, who has not only seen me through so many difficult times, but also been a 20 year concert buddy.
He’s a supremely talented lyricist and he sounded even better in person. His voice was strong and clear, and I’ve never seen an artist at the Bowl that went up into the stands and performed for those in the upper decks. The set and lighting was beautiful.
Congrats to Noah and his band for a spectacular show! And John Vincent III was great. I didn’t think I knew his music, but I recognized a couple of songs I loved, particularly Next to You. Check them both out!
