i can name 4 times in my life when i have been radicalized. in college around fighting rape culture, in my mid-20s around reproductive rights and queerness and gender, in 2020 around BLM and state violence, and now around p🍉lest!ne.
with each lifting of the veil, with each leap in consciousness, with each expanded understanding of what it takes to achieve collective liberation, an old self had to die in order for something new to take its place.
as a single parent i have more clarity than ever. i know who i am and i know what i stand for, i understand my place in this world and how to serve my role in it.
i have conviction and courage and i am proud to pass that on to my child. i am not afraid to change and i am proud to pass that on to my child. i do not care about being liked i care about being in right relation with myself and with this world and i am proud to pass that on to my child.

i celebrate my baby’s first birthday this week as i grieve the 7,870 (and counting) children martyred in g*za, i grieve the 25,000 (and counting) children who have lost one or both of their parents in the past two months, i grieve for how many times the acronym WCNSF must have been used.
we can hold all of it, we absolutely must. if i teach my child nothing else i hope it is that — how to hold it all.
