To all who have ever stood for Mauna Kea, Perhaps you stood on the Ala Hulu Kupuna arm in arm on the road or chanted, danced and sang in the ʻAha mauna in 2019-2020, or maybe you composed a mele or created an art piece to support the movement. No matter if you were here, if you sent your prayers from afar, or if youʻve been standing since the beginning or starting today, Mauna Kea Education and Awareness is asking everyone to assist us in reaching our goal of 500,000 signatures on the ʻNo Constructionʻ Petition that opens with this statement, “We, the global community of Mauna Kea supporters are demanding that there will be no construction of the 30 Meter Telescope on Mauna Kea, Island of Hawaiʻi. The TMT will cause harm to the mountain and destroy a sacred place for Kanaka Maoliʻs spiritual and cultural practices.”
The kiaʻi or protectors are not anti-science. They are committed to protecting the mountain from further desecration and destruction. This is not just about one mountain in Hawaiʻi. This is a global movement and the world is watching.
