International Firefighters Day (https://www.firefightersday.org/) was founded by Victorian firefighter JJ Edmondson, following a devastating wildfire in Linton in 1998, which claimed the lives of Victorian firefighters Matthew Armstrong, Stuart Davidson, Chris Evans, Jason Thomas and Garry Vredeveldt. Determined to introduce an internationally recognised global symbol of support and recognition for firefighters lost in the line of duty, as well as appreciating those still with us for their tireless work protecting Victorian communities, JJ designed the blue over red ribbon to represent water over fire. | Posted on 04/May/2024 06:12:00
