So happy to be part of celebrating @nenehcherryofficial with my cover of her Buffalo Stance, its out now. I collaborated with @devhynes and @mapeiofficial to make a version of this song that has influenced me and my friends in so many ways. The imprint that Neneh’s voice made on my 10-year old brain has stayed with me ever since I first heard Buffalo Stance and has informed many songs I’ve written. It was 1989 and me and my friend spent most of our summer playing cards and listening to “Raw Like Sushi”. Even though I didn’t understand all the words I knew that she was on my side. The power in her voice revealed truths about what it is like to be a girl without making excuses and was intensely inspiring. The ten year old me would have been completely blown away by this and that’s how I still feel now about Neneh as a human being now that we are friends and about this powerful song, it’s still so relevant.
It was a dream to interpret it together with Dev and Mapei who I both admire so much. I hope you like it!
