It’s International Women’s Day! To mark this special day, The Independent has compiled Independent Women: The Influence List 2024, featuring the 50 most influential women of the moment. And I’m thrilled to say that I’m on the list! To mark the occasion, 10 of us on the list have had our portraits taken by Sane Seven to raise money and awareness for the incredible charity Refuge. I’m completely honoured to have been chosen and I think Sane has done an incredible job of capturing a side of me that I don’t show to people that often. I’m proud to be displaying my headphones too, my defence mechanism. I wear them whenever I’m in public to prevent me from having to hear people laughing or shouting things at me because of the way I walk. Tariq and his family are one of the families that @_allourrelations are supporting right now. Their story is heartbreaking, losing their darling daughter to malnutrition which could have been prevented had aid been allowed into Northern G zzzz @. Tariq is also disabled and uses a wheelchair. They have lost everything, been displaced 5 times and are now living in a tent in Khan Younis. There is very little support on the ground right now so we ask that you donate to his gofundme which you will find in @rachelruark’s linktree to ensure that they at least have the provisions they need to survive at this time. We hope to raise enough money to evacuate Tariq and his family when there is a ceasefire and the R@f @ h border opens.
