Missing my nieces and nephews most today. Miss my family and my hometown and our eid rituals most today. I miss texting my brother frantically in the car every year to not start the eid prayer till we got there (cuz my other brother refused to ever wake up on time cuz honestly 6am for a fancy communal gathering is so early). I miss coming home from prayer and throwing bags of $5 candies at all 17 of my nieces and nephews, which blew their mindsssssss. Miss seeing how much money my mom gives each kid depending on what age “status” they’ve reached (oldest always gets the most until one day you’re cut off cuz you’re “old enough to be married”). Miss my oldest brother making all of my grandma’s old ka7k and ghorayeba recipes (which he refuses to give me because he says I’ll “give away” the secret family recipes ((which I will)). Miss my closer brother getting up in the middle of the movie theatre to pray in the corner cuz our routine is off and he refuses to miss the prayer window. I love seeing what colorful outfits and thoughtful gifts my older sisters and sisters in law come up with every year. And I miss getting my bomb outfit pics taken by my nieces after we all break off from the family at golden hour. Nobody takes photos as well as my nieces by the lakeshore in port credit and that’s just the honest truth 😌.
