Mostly because of this very cute @vintageanchorbooks tote, I decided to reread THE HOUSE ON MANGO STREET by Sandra Cisneros and found it to be more charming than ever.

#TheHouseOnMangoStreet is voicey and sweet, filled with childlike wonder, mischief, and curiosity. It’s told in bite-sized chapters that serve almost as isolated stories—little anecdotes from a delightfully misfit cast of characters always peripherally aware of the harsher socioeconomic undercurrents running between their narrative lines. The punchy dialogue and down to earth humor carry you from page to page. Occasionally, a much darker story beat will stop the rhythm like a catch breath, lingering just long enough to reorient you and remind you how coming-of-age, even for characters as sassy and spirited as this, is more complex than a collection of your best or most awkward memories. Love this little book. Such a treat to revisit it.
