Shannon Elizabeth Instagram – Our first trip to northern Alaska was something that took years of planning. Where to go, how to get there, and who to stay with all had to be deeply considered. This was an expedition that almost didn’t happen…
As our boat found a position to sit and witness the following events, our guide was able to explain to us just what was happening. A mother bear and her daughter had wandered down towards the water’s edge, followed by another mother and her small son. The pair of bears first kept a bit of distance from each other. But then we would see the young male muster enough bravery to venture towards the female. But then he would get shy and run and hide safely behind his mother. Next, the young female would do precisely the same. We watched this dance for quite a while, admiring the innocent games and young crush that reminded us all of ourselves in our youth.
In a flash, this moment was captured of the young male hiding behind his mom but never taking his gaze off of what must have been his first love. Mom watched us all intently, just to make sure we wouldn’t disturb this light-hearted play date that was unfolding before us. We were all in tears, and every stress we might have held from the travel and chaos just melted away in this moment. These polar bears taught us so much that day—they showed us how they play, how they care, and how they love. With that, our Alaska trip felt abundant and complete.
Now you can own part of that moment and help the @shannonelizabethfdn at the same time.
