Tima Shomali Instagram – I posted about my experience photographing behind the scenes of the Jordanian Netflix show “Alrawabi” a while back. Although it wasn’t my first visit to Jordan’s capital, Amman, it was the longest period I spent there—several weeks across a couple of the winter months. Huddled over indoor heaters in the vast studio space, I was among a crew and cast consisting mostly of Jordanians.
Due to the cold, we wore layers of clothing, and my attire included a maroon-colored jumper with the symbol of the “University of Jerusalem” across the front. My camera and jumper sparked many conversations, highlighting that solidarity wasn’t merely an option but a reality. I listened to many Palestinians sharing their stories of leaving their homes due to the occupation and appreciated how the subtle symbolism in the words, music, and acting was woven throughout the set and scenes.
We are surrounded by media meant to cater to us, but rarely is it created by us. Thank you to all those who were part of making this show, and to @timashomali @isshomali and @shirin_kamal for elevating the industry. | Posted on 05/Jun/2024 17:28:51
