Vickie Howell Instagram – Super fun collab with my kid on an outfit for their theater company’s end-of-year banquet. I call this look, “Hedy, Meet Ziggy. Ziggy, Meet Hedy”.
Banquet theme: A Night in Starrywood (aka Old Hollywood Glamour)
Inspiration: Hedy Lamarr from Ziegfeld Girl a dash of Ziggy Stardust (David Bowie’s alter ego)
D.I.Y. details:
We started with a store bought romper that would be comfortable for a long event, while still giving a drapey silhouette. From there, we created or embellished. Additions/creations included:
• Shoulder pads added as a nod to the 40’s
• Hand-sewn sequin and appliqué stars
• Organza outerwear. Simple, 2-seam “robe” I sewed with 20’s-inspired cocoon shape
• Star headdress I created with armature wire, floral wire, beaded appliqués, crystal floral spray, and hot glue.
