Six months ago, the @birthfund was born and already, they’ve raised over $1M to ensure that moms get access to midwifery services that are life saving, yet NOT covered by insurance.

The United States has THE WORST maternal mortality rates amongst developed countries. But here’s a stat that should galvanize you to give: 80% of maternal deaths in the these United States ARE AVOIDABLE!

Like they don’t have to happen. Moms DON’T have to die in child birth. Children don’t have to grow up never knowing the embrace of their mother. Fathers don’t have to be widows and single parents because of a failed health system.

Midwives SIGNIFICANTLY help to reduce these rates. However their services, although drastically cheaper than a hospital birth, are not covered by US insurance. The @birthfund closes that gap. Donor funds go to individual families who would not otherwise be able to afford such out-of-pocket care.
