Rina Sawayama Instagram - happy international women’s day to all women, and in particular the women who have to fight silent battles with this industry on a daily basis!

It’s the first time I’ve been honest about my past year (or to a level of detail I feel safe to). Honestly my mental health has been awful and though I was able to complete my 2023 commitments I can’t say it’s been the same this year. I’m sorry if I’ve let you down, my fans have been the shining light in all this. You’re always so supportive of me and I appreciate it so much. I’ve been lucky to have found ways to keep my business afloat and support myself as well as my team, but when it comes to new music I can’t release another album under my current conditions. I feel really trapped and don’t know what to do.

Thank you to the women who bravely shared their story here, and to Roisin and Chloe for bringing it all together. you can read it in my stories (as you might expect there’s lots of trigger warnings).

I’ve felt enlivened by the strength in this article, but I’ve also cried at how truly rotten the industry is. This is just a FRACTION of what actually goes on. Ive heard more stories like this, some worse, in private from other artists. There are men who have done horrible things to multiple women who have very secure jobs in high places. It’s truly terrifying.

If you wanna help us you can share the article and send words of love and support to those featured. I would like to see more publications amplify this endemic problem outside of this one day too. Like I said in the article I don’t know a single woman who has not experienced some form of misogyny. As someone whose passion in music at school was taken advantage of by a music teacher who proceeded to then groom me for several years in my teens, it starts young. The music industry is absolutely due a MeToo movement and we need your amplification. Otherwise these artists will disappear from the industry. I don’t want any young person to ever have to experience what some of these women have. I want men to amplify this too.

This is our workplace and women don’t deserve to be treated like this. This is not some rite of passage and this needs to stop

Rina Sawayama - 74.2K Likes - At 32, @RinasOnline has established herself as part of a new generation of music stars reshaping the industry model to fit their own mould. And, she tells @LiamNHess, she’s only just getting started. In the July 2023 issue of @BritishVogue, the cover star talks about her third album, taking her first steps as an actor and why being a queer Asian musician is “freeing”. Click the link in bio to read the profile in full, and see the full story in the new issue, on newsstands Tuesday 20 June.

#RinaSawayama wears all @Givenchy, photographed by #TimWalker and styled by @KPhelan123, with hair by @AliPirzadeh, make-up by @TerryBarberOnBeauty, nails by @Simmy_NailsAndBeauty, set design by @MigsBento and production by @Zoe_Wassall at @GreatSouthernProductions.

[Image Description: Image shows Rina Sawayama, a Japanese-British woman with black hair, on the cover of British Vogue. She is dressed all in black, and sitting on a stool against a grey backdrop, with her body angled to the right and her head turned towards the camera. Her long black hair is standing up vertically and her fingernails are long and filed into a point. Her left arm is resting on her knee, and her right arm is folded on top, with her chin resting on her hand. Above her head, the Vogue logo in big white letters. The cover also reads: “Pride & Joy.“]

Rina Sawayama - 3 Likes - happy international women’s day to all women, and in particular the women who have to fight silent battles with this industry on a daily basis!
