D.J. ‘Shangela’ Pierce Instagram – EVERY JULY 15th is JACKIE WASHINGTON DAY!!! #iykyk Five years ago I had one of those major “pinch me” moments. I was co-producing a 20th anniversary event for one of my fave cult classics “Jackie’s Back!” starring one of my fave divas in the world @jeniferlewisforreal. My fellow producer, friend and self-proclaimed Jackie Stan @nathanhwilliams and I took on a tall order … and WHAT AN UNFORGETTABLE NIGHT!! Jen let me put her in full #JackieDrag 😂 … And so many of the film’s stars helped pack a sold-out theatre … plus the film’s director @iamroberttownsend, composer @marc_shaiman, writers @markaltonbrown and @deeladuke and more! We even had videos sent in from @dollyparton @bettemidler and @whoopigoldberg ♥️ Years ago when I was in college I would host Jackie Washington Day parties at my dorm room and just this past weekend I went to actual Kinloch, Missouri (the birthplace of “Jackie”) alongside my Jen … it’s crazy (and such a gift) where life will take u if u just keep showing up!
