Morning cards on the balcony. Declan kept saying how this was so French. The little balcony, the geraniums behind us, the small little table, the sounds of sirens and motorcycles on the main street. Our dog at our feet looking at all the passersby on the street below.

My second time in Canterbury. The first time I came because I’m such a nerd. I wanted to see where Thomas Becket was cut down. I also wanted to breathe in some Chaucer. This time we came to look at schools. A lovely stay at the Miller’s Arms. We stayed in the Wife of Bath’s room. Luckily she wasn’t there.

Morning Nutella and mini-bananas–a new favorite. He usually doesn’t get up in time for the breakfast buffet so I sneak out supplies in my bag and bring them@back for re-assembly.

This is me going full on historical nerd. It’s what Hugo calls Denis-ing. We went to La Manga which is a very fun strip of sand in the Murcia region of Spain. We dropped Declan off with our friends and their son and then Hugo and I took off to Cartagena, which is 30 minutes away. I was excited to come here because, I know quite a bit about the Carthaginians and their history in Spain and Hannibal’s ultimate showdown with Rome. In our latest play, The Song of Rome, Lisa Peterson and I have a section on Dido and Aeneas. We love Queen Dido – the Carthaginian queen. We first stopped by the Roman amphitheater, which was built at the direction of Augustus. We then visited the remains of the Punic wall and this crazy crypt. I threw in the picture of this amazing tree because of the root.

The boat ride to Phuket and back was the most fun all day. Spine cracking bounces as it slapped the waves, a warm wind. We were stopped by Royal Thai police and then boarded because we had too many people aboard. Back to the Harbour where 10 got off and loaded onto a different boat and then we headed out again. The best adventures are unplanned.
