Donal Logue Instagram – Twenty-five years ago, on November 4, 1997, I spent the day in Beijing’s spectacular “Forbidden City.” My sister and I made friends with this man (who went by “Fred”) in Tiananman Square, and he became our de facto guide to China. Just the written history of China dates back almost 3500 years to the Shang Dynasty. The Zhou Dynasty is where the concept of the “Mandate of Heaven” comes from. Following the Spring and Autumn And Warring States period, Emperor Qin Shi Huang unified the country in 221 BC and gave Imperial China it’s name (from Qin). To understand China today, it’s critical to understand its long and deeply complex history and especially its (almost) unbroken chain of Dynastic Cycles. One out of every five people on the planet is Chinese. There are cities in China with the same population as Australia, a country (and continent) roughly the same size. In fact, China and the US are almost exactly the same size geographically, but there are five Chinese people for every American. The two places I visit most often in my dreams are my old pad in Tribeca I shared with @jessepooljesse and China. It was so different from anything I was used to. | Posted on 05/Nov/2022 11:23:26
