Helpful Definitions:
✏️ Chop-and-Drop: Regularly cutting support trees and plants, then leaving the prunings on the forest floor to decompose, enrich the soil, and support fungal networks.
✏️ Coppicing: Coppicing is a technique used to harvest wood from certain types of trees. The trees are cut down to stumps at or near ground level, and new shoots are allowed to grow until the wood is at a useful size for harvesting. By choosing and rotating the harvest of trees, we can sustainably source wood for cooking, heating, mulch, and timber without having to fell old-growth or mature forests.
✏️ Pollarding: Similar to coppicing, but involves cutting trees higher up to prevent animal browsing, provide shade when needed, and make it easier to walk around.
