George Clarke Instagram – In 1961 ‘George’s Golborne Fish Bar’ (later known as ‘George’s Portobello Fish Bar’) opened near the junction of two of my favourite streets in London. Golborne Road and Portobello Road. They are basically my local high streets and have been for nearly 30 years. The Fish Bar has been a magnificent institution for so many in our ‘local village’ in W10…George’s not only do the best fish and chips but it’s also famous for its ribs. Unfortunately, on Saturday 20th July 2024 ‘George’s’ closes its doors and will no longer be with us. Sad times. It will be a friendly face lost from our high street. But, (on a more positive note) on the 20th July the ‘George’ family (who are amazing) are having a party on the street outside the shop to celebrate the unbelievable contribution they’ve made to W10 over the last 60 years! That is going to be an historic day, not to be missed. (I’ve heard a rumour that local legend Paul Weller might pop along!).
