Johnny Weir Instagram – 2.July.2024 Well, I’m not entirely sure how this has happened, but today I’m 40. If statistics are to be believed, for an average American man, I’m over halfway cooked and while that is a sobering realization, not one of us is just a number. The question, “how old are you?” is robotic and numerical and sheds no light on the richness and beauty of one’s personal tapestry of life. “How much have you lived?” is a far more important question.
I have lived much. I have experienced, I have failed, I have learned, I have believed, I have fought hard, I have devastated, I have dreamt, I have seen, I have loved and the list goes on…
If I were talking to the little boy in the photo, I’d tell him to go forth in authenticity, love yourself so you can better love those around you, take everything and nothing too seriously, and be not afraid (except of sharks). I’d tell him that he will fuck up, he will realize that you can’t put toothpaste back in the tube, life is a collection of memories that are singular to the person remembering, and that if he makes a plan, God is going to laugh at him.
This is a rambling post simply because it is hard to put 40 years of appreciation and learning into one message but my point is, life is for living. I go forward into my next chapter hoping to be better, to be stronger, to be fearless, and to give the clueless kid in that photo, a friend to be proud of.
