This year’s theme, “Planet vs. Plastics”, calls for reducing plastic waste and consumption. At the @unitednations, countries are working on a legally binding treaty to end plastic pollution. Expected to launch this year, this will be a significant step towards a zero waste future.
As an island-state, Singapore is especially vulnerable to climate change. We are committed to building a sustainable future. Our Zero Waste Masterplan targets to reduce by 30% the amount of waste sent to landfill per capita by 2030. Last year, we implemented the disposable carrier bag charge. We are also studying ways to reduce packaging waste.
We must all play our parts – avoiding single-use plastics, opting for reusable alternatives, and recycling electronic waste. Let’s safeguard our planet for our future generations! 🌎– LHL
