Long C😷VID is a social justice and disability justice issue. For those of us who claim to care about intersectionality, this must become a part of our praxis.
I know that everyone is exhausted and unhealed from everything that’s happened the past few years, but solidarity is fighting along side eachother, even when it is challenging.
As white prople committed to anti-racism, solidarity is not just how you show up for your individual BIPOC friends, but a practice and a value that must permeate every area of your life. It is no different with disability justice. Care work is and can be part of solidarity, but that alone is not enough.

“On #LongCovidAwarenessDay, do not turn away from the 200 million of us worldwide living under the burden of systemic ableism from public health & governments trying to push us under the rug. Our numbers are growing everyday and yet after 4 years, no approved treatments or cure exists. Instead, we are muted, unfollowed, and stigmatized for trying to bring awareness and call for help. You don’t treat cancer patients the same way, but somehow it’s morally acceptable to ostracize longhaulers? We are people, not just statistics, and you are not the exception to this virus. This could happen to you on your 3rd or 6th infection. We have dreams, goals, heck—we just want to be able to dance again. The nature of this virus has not changed, only the government’s response has.
This is the largest mass-disabling event in history and we ask you to recognize science and your own humanity by doing your part to curb transmission so this doesn’t have to occur to more people—your family, friends, colleagues, your bus driver, the grocery cashier, the 公公 on the skytrain that’s the only one masked—do it for yourself. Do it for me.
