Matthew Santoro Instagram – Remember that time I met Jim Carrey? This was 20 years in the making. Ever since I was a young kid one of my greatest inspirations had been Jim. To this day I can still recite the entire “snowflake the dolphin” scene from Ace Venture.
He is, in every sense, an enlightened human being. I remember that day every other celebrity I met during TIFF (Toronto International Film Festival) allowed their publicist and others to rush them through the promotional circuit of interviews, but when they tried that with Jim, he stopped everyone in the room, told them to be present, relax, and be more human. The entire energy of the room changed. That’s when Jim approached me. As I shook his hand he looked at me as if he recognized me and asked “are you online or something?”. Immediately after, he told me he’s seen my videos before. I was completely taken aback when he said that but, oddly, I wasn’t star struck. Instead I had a real conversation with Jim about how his viral commencement speech talking about “how you can fail what you don’t want, so you might as well take a chance at chance on doing what you love” inspired me. I told him how used to be an accountant like his father but instead of taking the conservative approach like he did, I took that risk and today I am a full time YouTuber. I thanked him for using his influence to make the world a better place in a time when it’s fashionable to be controversial for attention. After making me laugh about 20 times we took this picture and parted ways.
