Rob Delaney Instagram – As of today I have been sober for 22 years! How insane is that? 22 years ago I was in jail in a wheelchair. I’d driven my car into a building in a blackout. Thank God the only person who got hurt was me. I’d been struggling with alcohol for years and when the accident illustrated that that my drinking could easily hurt or kill others – not just me – I decided to get the help I needed to stop. I was court ordered to rehab for a month and then a sober living halfway house after that. Could’ve done a shorter period of time in jail but I knew rehab was where I belonged. I’ve heard the 12 Steps described as “an assembly line for a spiritual experience” and I’ve found that accurate. They gave me the framework to stop drinking and stay stopped.
2 years into sobriety I met my #sexy wife and we’ve been together since. 5 yrs into sobriety I mustered the courage to pursue my dream career.
We’ve had 4 sons we’re crazy about. Our 3rd son Henry, died of cancer 6 years ago. I didn’t drink or get high & as a result I remained of use to my family and my coworkers, all the while feeling the grief and anger and wonder and gratitude.
I want to thank the army of people who’ve helped me along the way. I feel a lot of love right now.
