Theaster Gates Instagram – It’s hard to explain the joy I feel seeing Japanese DJs spinning soul while I’m learning tea ceremony! The mash ups are bizarre and natural at the same time. Afro Mingei, my exhibition at Mori museum, has allowed me to push certain ideas around cultural transference, Mingei, and the archive further than I’ve ever had opportunity before. To ask questions about cultural purity and plurality while playing, building friendships and challenging my own sense has been so rewarding.
