Now this leaked data can be misused for fraudulent financial transactions, obtaining mobile and internet connections, and identity theft etc.
Here are 3 things that you can do to protect it-
A. Lock your Aadhaar biometric-
1. Your Aadhaar contains biometric data, such as iris scans and fingerprints, which fraudsters could use to make unauthorized transactions from your account.
2. To prevent such scams, UIDAI offers a feature that lets you lock your biometric details.
3. Biometric locking prevents the use of fingerprints, iris, or face for Aadhaar authentication, ensuring safety from biometric misuse.
B. Use Masked Aadhaar card
1. From hotels, hospitals, to sim operator all request Aadhaar copies for ID proof. Many people unknowingly hand out Aadhaar photocopies but what if there is data leak then your identity can be easily misused.
2. Now to protect your data you can just use masked Aadhaar card where the first 8 digits of your Aadhaar number will be hidden.
3. As per UIDAI it is completely valid document, just that it cannot be used for government schemes and subsidies.
C. Check Aadhaar Authentication History
1. UIDAI on twitter said “You can see your Aadhaar authentication history for last six months on UIDAI website or mAadhaar app. Do check the same periodically.
2. The Aadhaar Authentication History service on the UIDAI website provides information on a user’s past authentications.
3. Here you can check where all you have used Aadhaar based biometric, OTP or demographic authentication for availing various services, and ensure that it has not been misused.
