These children’s beautiful drawings and paintings from @parentsforfutureuk were recently delivered to Norwegian oil giant Equinor, calling on them to stop the development of the controversial Rosebank oil field.
Rosebank is the biggest undeveloped oil field in the UK, and is completely incompatible with climate targets. The CO2 from burning the fossil fuels in just this one field would be equal to the annual emissions of the 28 lowest-income countries in the Global South combined.
Rosebank is also situated right next to a marine protected area. Construction of the field, as well as potential oil spills, could have devastating impacts on the endangered and threatened species that call that area home.
Approving new fields like Rosebank only makes us more dependent on expensive, polluting oil and gas for longer, when we can and should be rapidly switching to clean affordable energy.
Despite warnings from climate scientists and experts, Rosebank was approved by the UK last September, but it’s not over.
