One of my favorite MLK quotes is “True compassion is more than flinging a coin to a beggar; it understands that an edifice which produces beggars needs restructuring.”
This holds true today. When you look at homelessness, for example, throwing money at the problem clearly isn’t enough. We must address the systemic issues that contribute to homelessness, like our failing education and foster care systems.
I heard so many of you share today that you agree it’s time for a restructuring. I love you, California. My dream for each of you is to feel like the California dream is within your reach.
