Courtney Halverson Instagram – It’s been awhile, but I still remember this unkind message I recieved. I’d shared my laundry drying in a hotel room in a photo and received a message to the effect of “this whole romanticizing thing is so insufferable. It’s just clothes drying in a bland room”. But I’ve always felt – there’s a kind of magic in finding the beauty in the ordinary, isn’t there?
I think, if nothing else, my camera roll is a testament to that. Sure, there are the big moments; the sweeping views, the vacation photos, the special occasions and dressed up events. But in a much greater quantity there are the “in-betweens” as I call them; the flowers and weeds growing in equal measure on our hillside, the pasta I threw together for lunch that looked nice on our windowsill, my morning coffee in bed, and yes – photos of the way the light happened to fall on my laundry drying one very ordinary day.
So while this isn’t exactly an ordinary moment (hello dreamy laundry line in Tuscany) I hope it serves just a little as a love letter to all the “in-betweens” I capture and treasure.
