Emily Bett Rickards Instagram – There was a time when JL and I were both in our 20’s, unemployed and living in the same apartment building. In fact his sister, JL and I occupied the 2nd, 3rd and 4th floors because even though we were in a dodgy neighbourhood we were all suckers for exposed brick and shitty parking.
It was there we shot 100 auditions, mounted a TV larger than a truck, drank coffee, drank whiskey, ate burgers, and saved Dani’s cat when he decided he would free climb the outside of the building. But the memory that wins most memorable is when JL told me he had been talking to this girl. “She lives in Windsor” he said “I’m gonna go to the east coast… She’s funny!”
If you know JL you know humour is everything. It’s his jokes that have saved me from the depths of the deepest times and something he had NEVER said about anyone he was interested in.
So he went to the east coast, met Elise, and after the exchange of many many laughs laced in baby talk they are now engaged. Which is so wonderful for them but even more so for us fortunate enough to be in their inner circle. We are the true winners on this one.
