My favorite person in the world @thewholeruth just did this lovely interview with our ol’ sketch comedy pal Janet Varney for Janet’s fantastic podcast @thejvclub .
We met Janet in 2004 (check out the 2nd pic for proof) back in the early days of the San Francisco Sketchfest, which she co-founded with Cole Stratton and David Owen. We thought Janet was pretty magical from the moment we met her. And it’s safe to say she’s still just as magical. As soon as the interview started, I was immediately smiling ear-to-ear just hearing Ruth and Janet reconnect. A couple of human gems being their human gem selves.
There’s some @hobocodepod plugging, but the conceit at the heart of The JV Club is for guests to share about those awkward/wonderful/or-whatever-adjective teen and high school years.
And I may be a little bias, but I think Ruth is truly one of the world’s best storytellers. There’s an effervescence around her that draws total strangers in. She bounces around in the midst of a story, collecting all the little sights and sounds and smells and references to share with you so that you’re sitting fully immersed in the world with her. And, in this interview, she shares so open-heartedly (no surprise, that’s kind of her trademark) about life and song and home and relationships and growing up at all ages.
