Katie Couric Instagram – How amazing is this?! ❤️ Dr. Ruth Gottesman, a former professor at Albert Einstein College of Medicine in the Bronx, has made a 1 BILLION dollar donation to the school. It’s one of the largest charitable donations to an educational institution in the United States and most likely the largest to a medical school. The fortune came from her late husband, David Gottesman, who died in 2022. Mr. Gottesman was a protégé of Warren Buffett and had made an early investment in Berkshire Hathaway, the conglomerate Mr. Buffett built. “He left me, unbeknownst to me, a whole portfolio of Berkshire Hathaway stock,” Dr. Gottesman told the @nytimes. His instructions? “Do whatever you think is right,” she said. The $1 billion dollar donation will ensure that no student at @einsteinmed will have to pay tuition again. All current fourth year students will be reimbursed for their spring 2024 semester tuition and, beginning at the start of next term, all students moving forward will receive free tuition at @einsteinmed, the school said. Tuition and fees for one year at the medical school total over $63,000 and more than half the medical students owe upward of $200,000 in student debt after graduating, according to the college. 📸: @gettyimages Bronx, New York
