A year ago, I faced a darkness I never thought I’d escape. It knocked every other hardship, loss, heartbreak out the water. I took that experience, and pushed my body and mind into a space where I never saw myself being a part of. When I thought of runners, I questioned if I had the endurance. When I thought of swimmers, I never imagined I could be that skilled. And when I thought of cyclists-I honestly didn’t know many black people personally in that space. So I never saw myself in it. Now, I have officially done my first #Ironman. I picked the 2nd hardest course in the world to be my first race. To ALL of you who have been a part of this journey with me, thank you, from the bottom of my heart, I needed your words, affirmations and support. I unfortunately did not make the cut off time to finish the race, but I will be back next year to cross that finish line!! I worked my ass off for this moment. And what I never considered was the time I put in the work, was my actual marathon. I am forever a work in progress. I thank gd that I chose myself, that I imagined a possibility of a stronger me, instead of choosing to shrink and sink. Our minds can be our strongest ally. They can also be our worst destruction. Know that YOU are not alone.
