Watched Barbie and was really moved and inspired by the great reminder for us, women. In a world where men are louder than women, where we still experience inequality, Barbie reminds us that our power can only be taken away when we believe they have the right to do so. Just like when Ken made all the Barbie’s forget for a moment how limitless they are, that their purpose is not just to serve men, we as women have to take responsibility, and never ever ever forget that we can do whatever we want, whenever we want, and we can also wear makeup, or heels, or a nice blow out while we are at it for our own amusement. It is funny because even for me coming from a pageant world, where beauty is certainly praised as a core for entertainment purposes, but in reality, in the behind the scenes, your vision and mission, your strength and grace, your will and your confidence are being considered as core factors to win, at least 9 years ago when I participated. Nevertheless, part of the problem is that life for women can feel like a pageant, where it seems that society is constantly evaluating you, scoring you for your outside beauty, where in reality, true beauty is on the inside. What is essential is invisible to the eye. We, as women, have to remind each other (like in Barbie) that we must be in the important conversations, in the decision making, in the creation of a better world. A better world is definitely not going to happen without women being not just part of it but for me, leading it. It’s difficult not to think about the women that are in more complicated situations, even when they know they also like men, should be deciding their present and future, they cannot because their circumstances contain even bigger resistance. They need other women and men supporting them in what is right – freedom. Freedom to decide what they want to do with their lives and not be forced to do anything they don’t want to do.
