Philippa Northeast Instagram – Like all of you, I am devastated about the Australian bushfires and the unfathomable amount of destruction they have caused. I am gutted by our governments response to the crisis and it’s continual lack of leadership on climate change. However, I am so heartened by our community, the heroes that have faced the blazes and countless others that have donated time, resources and money. Those that are using social media for action and are vocalising to the federal government that the current climate policies do not reflect our beliefs, our community. As I sit glued to the radio as the brave @nswrfs put out spot fires in the area I call home, the reality of how much more there is to do hits hard.
Let’s continue the tremendous work. Let’s keep funding First Nation’s land management practises, keep pushing to change the constitution, keep examining our cultures materialistic and consumeristic imbalance, keep upsetting the domineering power heirachy, keep actively listening to honest reporting, keep continuing to educate ourselves and most importantly, keep healing.
Below is a lift of organisations that need your financial support to continue the incredible work they’re doing. And if you’ve donated what you can, you can support your local area by volunteering your time. In my own area, I’ve become a member of @laokosnowywildliferescue but there are countless other organisations that need help from administration and food preparation to animal care and transportation.
