Happy Father’s Day to the Archers who helped make this happen. I’d never known such sweetness before. I am proud of this little modern family. To nurture and maintain a respectful and supportive friendship all these years while trying to co-parent (and lead separate lives) is not always easy. But it is freedom! And sanity. And love. And it is quite possible ❤️

Some Love for Backspot, D.W. Waterson’s debut feature film starring Devery Jacobs and premiering at @tiff_net in a few hours. At the top of the year, I received a thoughtful screenplay with a sweet letter attached, and my goodness, I was in no mood or shape to be on a movie set. Due to various painful and devastating personal/family events, I’d barely worked since the pandemic (you couldn’t make some of it up if you tried and I know I’m not alone here, what a time to be alive). But, there was a real part of me longing for play and travel, and in that sense, the offer came at exactly the right time. This role of a quietly suffering mother only had a few scenes, and I knew deep down that it could work. Whatever state I’d been stuck in was compatible with this woman (maybe not exactly similar but that’s the fun of the job). So I made the decision to throw vanity out the window and showed up as I was – suffering. And believe me when I say I almost Fainted when I watched the screener and saw myself – but I’ll be okay! (I offered the producers a thousand bucks to lie and say they made me look like this for the movie but no banana) Anyway, the true gift of the thing: I fell in love with the souls of these two creatures. D.W. is a natural force behind the camera. It was wonderful to witness! They made a strong first effort feature film – alive and earnest. And Miss Devery melts the screen with her spirit. True beauty lives first in the soul, and that sentiment is on full display here. You can feel the love between director and actress in the sweetest, most pure kind of way. I genuinely feel like a proud mama, but I also made two new friends. Sending you both the biggest warm hugs and congratulations for the premiere, and I will be there soon to show you <3 <3 @dw_waterson @kdeveryjacobs

Yesterday, in the mail, on real paper and all, I received this precious gift of poetry from Katie Ness. We’ve never met in person (yet), but I read her cards sometime last year, and I remember it fondly. It’s beautiful, Katie. The way you see. You went and put me right into a Miyazaki movie 💘 This is for cherishing. Thank you You can find the rest of this poem and more in her new poetry book, Juggernaut, over at a space full of love @katie_wild_witch 📝
