The Blessed Madonna Instagram – Happy Father’s Day to my Daddy Roger, the best I could possibly ask for. It’s become a meme to say “not the stepdad but the dad that stepped up” but that’s exactly who he is. He has been there for me in times of joy and times of great, great personal difficulty. Roger is not a great father because of blood, but more importantly by choosing to be present over and over again. He often bridged the troubled gap between me and my biological dad with kindness, forgiveness and humility that I did not possess at the time. And when people ask me how I got into dance music so early, there’s really one answer. Yep, you guessed it. If I had to name my ten favorite albums, he probably played 5 of them for me the first time and he thought about them, talked about them, and evangelized about them with the kind of passion you with certainly recognize in me. There’s just some records I don’t play around about and God help you if you try and talk down about them. There isn’t one part of my life that hasn’t been made richer, deeper and happier by his presence. Roger and my mom also model so many of the things that I would come to value in my own marriage: kindness, acceptance, a shared love of art, humour, and the family trip to the disco. My biological father, who I love equally and miss very much, died in 2021. I think today would be a harder day, if I had not been so unambiguously loved, seen and championed by Roger and my mom.
