I had the privilege of co-chairing the event with my gorgeous friend Rika Broccoli (@ayame__007 )❤️. We supported women in recovery from substance abuse and celebrated the inspiring stories of our honorees: Eloise Jean Black, a fashion designer and philanthropist; @yoshikiofficial , a rock star and humanitarian; and John Paul DeJoria, an entrepreneur, philanthropist and superhero whose award was graciously presented by dear friends @angusmitchell_ and Keely Brosnan. @eloisedejoria You are all champions and I thank you for making the world a better place❣️ I was also blessed to have my family and my best girlfriends by my side, who always lift me up and make me feel #strongertogether. I am grateful to be a sober mom & wife, and to have a second chance at life thanks to the grace of God. I also want to acknowledge executive director @christinasimos , who is a passionate advocate for women in recovery and it was incredible to hear from the Grateful Hearts, the women who shared their testimonies at the event. They are the true heroes of this cause and I admire their courage and resilience. One of the highlights of the event was the amazing performance by @bishopbriggs , who sang her hit song “River” with so much power and emotion. She is one of my favorite artists and I was thrilled to see her live. Brandy Ledford Instagram - I thought getting thrown from a horse this week was bad. Getting a phone call that my dad suddenly died has wrecked me. My heart is completely broken. Ken Ledford was my first cowboy, my first love and the strongest, coolest man I’ve ever known. He was so loving. He was generous with affection and always had an open heart. He loved his children more than anything in the world and was truly in love with his wife Lynn until his last breath. God bless you Lynn, we love you so much. He loved to dance, laugh, build stuff, eat delicious food, watch golf, actually golf, be in his garden- he was just planting peas on Tuesday! He loved the Lord with all his heart and soul. He loved to take me fishing and camping and hiking. He loved to brag about an airplane he helped rebuild that is in the Smithsonian, so every time I’m in DC I look for it. He loved dogs, cards, a good party, America, the Bible, his friends, Gunsmoke reruns, all things Western, long road trips, the outdoors, anything sweet. He loved me… I see him in the mirror sometimes, in my own smile, or when I laugh at a joke he would have liked. I find pieces of him in myself, in the way I face challenges, in my work ethic, my discipline, in my morning routine. His wisdom, joy and resilience will live in my spirit forever. Rest easy, daddy. Brandy Ledford Instagram - I thought getting thrown from a horse this week was bad. Getting a phone call that my dad suddenly died has wrecked me. My heart is completely broken. Ken Ledford was my first cowboy, my first love and the strongest, coolest man I’ve ever known. He was so loving. He was generous with affection and always had an open heart. He loved his children more than anything in the world and was truly in love with his wife Lynn until his last breath. God bless you Lynn, we love you so much. He loved to dance, laugh, build stuff, eat delicious food, watch golf, actually golf, be in his garden- he was just planting peas on Tuesday! He loved the Lord with all his heart and soul. He loved to take me fishing and camping and hiking. He loved to brag about an airplane he helped rebuild that is in the Smithsonian, so every time I’m in DC I look for it. He loved dogs, cards, a good party, America, the Bible, his friends, Gunsmoke reruns, all things Western, long road trips, the outdoors, anything sweet. He loved me… I see him in the mirror sometimes, in my own smile, or when I laugh at a joke he would have liked. Caption : Turning tragedy into saving lives, Robert and Linell Shapiro established the Brent Shapiro Foundation after losing their son, Brent, to addiction in October 2005. The foundation has successfully created an evidence-based incentive program for youths, called Brent’s Club, which provides a dedicated space for kids to join recovery programs, and abstain from drugs and alcohol, creating opportunity’s for college scholarships. Supported by donors worldwide who are concerned about the substance abuse epidemic, their Summer Spectacular was a huge win for the foundation and I was so honored to be there to witness the positive impact of their work. Thank you John Paul and my incredibly beautiful friend @eloisedejoria for inviting us and @brentshapirofdn and @shapiro.robert for all you do for the recovery community.
