Danny Way Instagram - It’s hard to write this because our story together could be like writing many chapters of a book. I feel so blessed to have been able to be so close to @kblock43 at such a young age especially when I needed so much guidance in my life around the time we met. Ken was like an older brother to me and eventually became one of the biggest mentors I’ve ever had especially after we lost @miketernasky. I know Ken learned so much from M.T as we all did but Ken saw my venerability without Mike in my life and saw the opportunity to bring out my all my potential but he become that anchor and sounding board that I needed growing up. I’ve looked up to Ken throughout my whole life and he always did things in way that I admired so much, honestly it made me jealous that I didn’t have his wisdom, abilities and skill sets. Ken was a great family man, the most amazing brand visionary and marketing master on the planet as anyone who knows him would agree. Ken and I were such a strong team together especially when it came to executing my crazy stunt ideas in return driving big campaigns and product stories for @dcshoes. Ken was in control of the marketing budgets and always down to bet on me, he had so much faith that I would always deliver. In the beginning, the story of building DC financially wasn’t easy so this kind of my experimental risk taking marketing could of sank the company without success. Ken always wanted to lead with risk taking marketing never thinking about revenue as the driver, his mindset was authentic knowing the money would come if we stayed true and led with our genuine passions. He didn’t see it as a risk because of our confidence together. What Ken has done with his own driving career clearly defines how gifted he is on so many levels and how his mind ticks, Ken led such an amazing life, he did so much for so many and his influence/ influential power is beyond words. Ken has done so much for my family and such an amazing uncle to my kids! Our families are very close and I could never thank him enough for how much love he has shown us over the years. My heart goes out to Lucy, the kids and the entire Block family ♥️🙏😞😪 #43forever

Danny Way Instagram - Growing up I had a little fear of heights so it’s quite ironic my skateboarding passion evolved to a place where I had to face that head on. Standing on the top of a 10 story bamboo scaffolding tower swaying around in the wind built on top of a skinny wall with no railings and a 50 foot drop on both sides was another mental twist with this endeavor. I had fluid still lingering from my ankle and knee surgeries last week so they had to drain the fluid prior to injections which added a little extra pain to the game. Danny Way Instagram - @buckylasek and I back in 1988, this was the day we shot our parts for the @powellperalta Public Domain vid, back then you would shoot your part in a day not over the course of a year. We were so hyped to be skating together at age such a young age and pushing each other to keep progressing. Crazy how long we have been friends!! Danny Way Instagram - Was it all worth it? common question I’m frequently asked, my answer is ABSOLUTELY !!!! Not sure if you can see what’s going on here but this is a CT scan of my neck showing loss of curve, 2 crushed discs C5-7, bone spurring and serious narrowing of the spinal canal. This is one of the many situations I’ve had to deal with most of my adulthood/ career with no tangible solution. I did this hitting the sandbar surfing when I was 18. I’ve accepted the injuries that western medical has no cure and just kept charging with the fuck it why would I turn back now, full speed ahead till the wheels fall off mentality. We are all human regardless of the mindset we develop to manage pain and bodily dysfunctions. The reality is eventually the consequences that come with living a reckless risk taking lifestyle catch up with all of us. I have been pushing myself beyond the physical safe zone since I started to walk and once I discovered vehicles it was really on. Not all of my injuries have been from skateboarding but an accumulation of all the physical passions I’ve pursued with no reservations to ever play it safe, all in always. I don’t ever want to slow down so I’m doing everything can to keep it going. This neck injury is just one on my list that I’ve been praying for medical science to figure out along with other injury dilemmas which include severe cartilage degeneration in both of my knees and one of ankles. My only alternatives prior have been fusing C5-7 and total knee and ankle replacement. @bioxcellerator_ has had major success with disc and cartilage regeneration using their progressive approach to stem cell therapy. It all seems too good to be true but we are limited in the USA to what the FDA will allow/endorse which minimizes our access to the most groundbreaking medical discoveries to date. This isn’t the first time I’ve had to travel abroad for medical treatment and it won’t be the last. I plan to share the results from this joint regeneration exploration and hope I can share with others in need and provide hard data on the most cutting edge treatment solutions that actually work. I’ve decided to just turn my athletic career into one big experiment.

Danny Way Instagram - This recent photo is the last time I got to see and hang out with @kenblock43 . I started living with Ken at 17 years old and to look back and see all the childhood dreams we’ve accomplished together brings me tears of joy. We created @dcshoes together at such young ages with @damonway @colinmckay. We had such a bond in our mindsets which was that we could achieve anything we wanted, never give up, and never doubt ourselves with our potential together or alone. So proud I was able to be so close to and learn so much from this pioneer and visionary. I’ve met a lot of people throughout my career and lifetime, but Ken was by far the most brilliant brand / marketing visionary I’ve ever met. When the driving career started I was like… WTF he’s good at this too?? I / we all will forever miss Ken, but I will always carry the traits / knowledge I admired so much about him with me and apply them to my own life. What a gift to have been so close to such an amazing human being. #43forever
Danny Way Instagram - It’s inevitable I would find my way back to the surgery table and despite the dark side of these operations it’s nice to find some light with a little humor. This challenge with @steveo and I started off as a friendly competition and has evolved into to a globally renowned professional sport with league regulations and crowning titles. I have nothing but respect admiration for the reigning champion “The King Of Pain” and his undisputed title for the last 5 years. With the unpredictably of injuries it’s impossible to forecast when these events will be scheduled and or sanctioned by the doctors of the AOO (Anesthesia Olympics Organization). After getting smoked by Steve in 2016 I finally have a shot at a comeback and the time to beat is #15seconds .. It’s expected and actually a good sign if your joints swell up and hurt really bad post the injections, that means the cells are integrating and doing what they are supposed to do, they say if this doesn’t happen that could be a sign of potentially a weaker outcome. @rampage4real and I literally in need of some wheelchair assistance🦽 @bioxcellerator_

Danny Way Instagram - This was the opening ceremony skate demo rehearsal at the 1996 Olympic Games in Atlanta. This was just following the first xgames in 1995 so skateboarding was still really underground in this era and it was pretty surreal to all of us back then we were a part of the Olympics in some sort of way. I think we knew skateboarding would be in the Olympics someday but it’s crazy its now the most anticipated event for the upcoming Tokyo Games. This wouldn’t of been possible without @espn @xgames 25 years of commitment to skateboarding, that’s what drove it to a level it had enough mainstream recognition to even be acknowledged by the Olympics. I know how controversial the Olympics have been in endemic skate culture but it’s pretty amazing how much skateboarding has accomplished and how much it’s impacted the world 🌎 #fbf

Danny Way Instagram - @matthensley22 is by far one of the most influential iconic skateboarders of all time, he’s also one of my very close childhood friends that I grew up skating with, we are from the same town Vista Ca and skate crew. Matt and I skated for Vision as kids but he left for new start up company @hstreetskateboards in 1988 and I left to ride for @powellperalta but only to find myself leaving Powell to turn pro for @hstreetskateboards along with Matt in 1989. In the summer of 1991 cofounder of @hstreetskateboards #miketernasky , founder of @worldindustries #SteveRocco and the five of us came together to create a new revolutionary movement called PlanB skateboards. We are excited to rerelease Matts first PlanB pro model which is one of the 5 original pro boards we launched @planbofficial with in 1991. @matthensley22 @furrycalamari @williamseansheffey #rickhoward and my board . Soon after the initial launch @sal_barbier @rodneymullen @colinmckay @ryanfabry and @pduffplanb would also join with us completing the cast to pursue PlanB’s first video project #questionable .

Danny Way Instagram - 15 years ago on this day the most important boss in skateboarding culture and industry passed away from a sudden heart attack. So much of what we love about the culture of endemic skateboarding was built by #faustovitello ‘s raw no bullshit grassroots attitude and by the brands he founded @thrashermag @independenttrucks @spitfirewheels @slapmagazine @venturetrucks @thundertrucks @realskateboards @anti_hero_skateboards and more.. Fausto and I bonded the second we met and he took me under his wing when I was around 14 years old, he and I had a special relationship that I will forever be grateful for but tremendously miss. Fausto did everything he could to protect the skate industry from being taken over by large corporations, to stop mainstream commercialization and or the over exploitation of our sacred community, his love and passion for skateboarding was the truth and was purely dedicated to keeping it gritty, grassroots and underground . “RIDE THE BEST FUCK THE REST“ RIP Fausto Vitello ♥️🙏🛹

Danny Way Instagram - I loved skating for @blindskate !! hanging with @jasonlee and #markgonzales was the best , always having tons of fun and laughing non stop!! These guys are such amazing personalities and skateboarders !! I have some of the funniest legendary stories of Mark and Jason especially around the time period they were both living together. This ad was one more example of the humor these guys led the company marketing with, making fun of the NSA “National Skateboard association ” competitive points standings posted in @transworldskate magazine every year was pretty funny, especially with how serious everyone took it back then 😂 it also doesn’t surprise me one bit Jason became a famous Hollywood actor and Mark an internationally renown / highly respected contemporary artist #tbt #steverocco 🙏

Danny Way Instagram - 30 years ago today we released the 2cnd @planbofficial video called Virtual Reality. This video still holds relevance in todays top level of modern day skateboarding innovations and progression, this video was way ahead of its time and set the tone of skateboarding standards and fundamentals for decades to come. Danny Way Instagram - Seeing is believing, I’m always searching for the latest innovations with orthopedic medical science and was connected with @bioxcellerator_ through a good friend of mine @wolfmate about 2 years ago. I have had countless joint injuries and surgeries over the last 40 years and have some significant degeneration in several joints but the weight bearing joints are the most chronically painful. I have had 4 knee reconstructions on my left knee and about to have the 5th. Both of my knees have cartilage degeneration / arthritic changes from years of heavy abuse. BioXcellerator treated both knees along with every other joint in my body 14 months ago. Just prior to these treatments I had MRI scans and X-rays on every joint in my body. Here is proof of what the mesenchymal stem cells can do for degenerative joints. The first of these 2 films was shot 14 months by @dr.fabilus just prior to my treatment late June 2021 and the second film was shot 2 days ago September 9th 2022 by @dr.fabilus . The joint spacing has increased between my tibial plateau and my femoral condyle, which shows some level of cartilage regeneration in this 14 month time period and it will continue to improve for the next year or so! When I built this relationship with @bioxcellerator_ I told them I wanted to document the process and the results of my treatments and be completely transparent about the findings and they were so confident in the outcome they were happy for me to share the results. I’m so amazed by these results and very excited to be working with the most advanced scientists, doctors and business in the stem cell movement. I was a little dazed from propofol in this clip but I just had 8 discs C2 -T2 and the facet joints injected with mesenchymal stem cells, this procedure is very precise considering how close to the spinal cord these needles get so they had to put me under for this one. I have severe degenerative disc disease and spinal stenosis which is a result of a life time of countless whip lashes, continuously smashing my head into the ground, a dozen knock outs and a life changing almost career ending spinal cord injury. This @bioxcellerator treatment has had success with the regeneration of disc height and damaged facet joints. I’m so happy to finally have some light here instead of fusion which I was never going to do regardless of the constant pain that is 24 hours a day 7days a week. Danny Way Instagram - 1988 @powellperalta Public Domain video, this was my first video part ever and the day I was asked to join the #bonesbrigade . The story goes something like this.. I was hanging out at @tonyhawk ‘s house and met @buckylasek who was visiting from Baltimore and already on Powell. Bucky was around 14-15 and I was 13. I had been fantasizing about riding for Powell and shortly after Bucky and I met we were on a train together heading up to Santa Barbara to the Powell headquarters to get some boards. We end up skating the Powell mini ramp for a day or so then the next thing I know we were both in @saiz5412 van with @mikevallely and @robwashburn driving to meet @chris_borst_ at a ramp in the middle of nowhere, located in the mountains between Santa Barbara and Bakersfield. This ramp was owned by a rich retired doctor who was a bit crazy but had this built for his son who had nothing to do out there and no one to skate it with. The doctor was always welcoming but it came with a cost. This guy made everyone do heavy chores around his property to skate but this was a very good ramp for the era so we all did what we had to for access. I remember getting ready to skate and all of a sudden Stacy Peralta @peraltastacy pulls up to film Bucky, and the other team riders for the new upcoming Powell movie and I instantly became super star struck nervous. With Stacy now behind the camera filming I knew this was my golden moment to make a good impression so I pulled it together and gave it my all. It seemed like things were pointing towards me joining the team but I hadn’t been told I was officially on by anyone yet. Stacy ended up filming us both all day and turned this into a segment with Bucky and I which is awesome to look back at now because of how much this video meant for us both. This was the catalyst moment that ignited both of our careers. I remember Stacy coming up to me after the session and saying welcome to the Bones Brigade which was so surreal and I was just blown away!! 🙏

Pretty cool how many people would turn up only to hear about it by word of mouth, decades prior to social media and public skateparks. This was a special moment in time and the place to be back then if you wanted to skate the streets with some of the top pros or local rippers. Danny Way Instagram - Just pulled together my #MegaRamp board collection. Pretty sure these are in chronological order minus the 2 I have lent to a display. Each of these boards have a career defining story and were retired on the spot once the mission was over and the experiment or challenge was complete. Here is the irony of what these boards represent to me and this is why I saved all of them- believe in yourself, dream big, never except doubt, never adopt anyone else’s negative opinions or perceptions and most importantly never give up!!! Remember we all have the key to unlock the belief system that anything is possible. Steve wasn’t too thrilled that I prevailed without an opportunity to defend himself. Danny Way Instagram - @kblock43 @rynoglobal and I out at #glamis for a @dcshoes photoshoot in the mid 90s . Ken and I starting living together in the early 90s and we both got really into riding and racing motocross. Early on we became really good friends with @rynoglobal and we would always find ourselves trying to keep up with the level of jump magnitude we were witnessing/caught up in. I know Ken and I had no business jumping the distances we did but when your riding sand dunes with a guy as crazy and talented as Ryan you better be careful, looks fun flying from one mountain dune to another like Ryno but one mistake and it’s a wrap. This was the end such an amazing day of riding and I will never forget how much fun we had together. I remember we were so happy that none of us got really hurt. Couple minor crashes but no trips to the hospital is a win in this game 🙏 @photoballard #43forever

Danny Way Instagram - I have had 28 orthopedic surgeries now which 21 were performed by @drwilliamprevite . When your in the business of getting hurt the resources like relationships with your doctors, and the education you acquire along the way becomes the crux to the longevity and success of your career. I wouldn’t have made it past 30 without Dr.Previte and @paul.chek . Paul introduced me to Dr. Previte in 1997 when I blew my ACL for the first X and the rest is history. @bioxcellerator_
Danny Way Instagram - My brother @damonway and the history of us growing up learning to skate together goes so deep. Damon was a bit better out of us 2 and one of the leaders and best skaters in our legendary skate crew growing up called VSL. Damon and I were on the same path of someday becoming pro skateboarders rivaling hard at times but for some reason the higher power had a different plan for Damon. His role in the skate culture/ skate industry led to an empire of innovations. A cosmic event happened and changed Damons life path forever and changed our dynamic as bothers. Damon and I were always competing / rivaling against each other every day then a shift happened. It’s crazy Damon saw the opportunity of entrepreneurialship at age 18 and took on a role of building the businesses around my career and my skate culture peers . Damon and RIP @kblock43 were the pioneers of skater owned , founded and funded apparel and footwear brands. Damon also had the vision before anyone to converge art , fashion , music and skateboarding lifestyle into an apparel / footwear line and literally kicked off the whole street wear and skate shoe brand movement of the early 90s . If it wasn’t for Damon so many brands you know of today would never have been inspired or existed without the model proven and seeing how it was done first. My brother has been such a pioneer in the back drop of the skateboarding industry that became a major influencer to all action sport cultures but mostly music relevance, street art and pop culture fashion trends , even high fashion brands like Louis Vuitton has become aware of how critical street wear culture is and how these brands have such on influence with mainstream fashion trends and staying relevant. I feel so blessed to have been able to be so close to @kblock43 at such a young age especially when I needed so much guidance in my life around the time we met. Ken was like an older brother to me and eventually became one of the biggest mentors I’ve ever had especially after we lost @miketernasky. I know Ken learned so much from M.T as we all did but Ken saw my venerability without Mike in my life and saw the opportunity to bring out my all my potential but he become that anchor and sounding board that I needed growing up. I’ve looked up to Ken throughout my whole life and he always did things in way that I admired so much, honestly it made me jealous that I didn’t have his wisdom, abilities and skill sets. Ken was a great family man, the most amazing brand visionary and marketing master on the planet as anyone who knows him would agree. Ken and I were such a strong team together especially when it came to executing my crazy stunt ideas in return driving big campaigns and product stories for @dcshoes. Ken was in control of the marketing budgets and always down to bet on me, he had so much faith that I would always deliver. In the beginning, the story of building DC financially wasn’t easy so this kind of my experimental risk taking marketing could of sank the company without success. Ken always wanted to lead with risk taking marketing never thinking about revenue as the driver, his mindset was authentic knowing the money would come if we stayed true and led with our genuine passions. He didn’t see it as a risk because of our confidence together. What Ken has done with his own driving career clearly defines how gifted he is on so many levels and how his mind ticks, Ken led such an amazing life, he did so much for so many and his influence/ influential power is beyond words. Ken has done so much for my family and such an amazing uncle to my kids! Our families are very close and I could never thank him enough for how much love he has shown us over the years. Standing on the top of a 10 story bamboo scaffolding tower swaying around in the wind built on top of a skinny wall with no railings and a 50 foot drop on both sides was another mental twist with this endeavor. Not sure if you can see what’s going on here but this is a CT scan of my neck showing loss of curve, 2 crushed discs C5-7, bone spurring and serious narrowing of the spinal canal. This is one of the many situations I’ve had to deal with most of my adulthood/ career with no tangible solution. I did this hitting the sandbar surfing when I was 18. I’ve accepted the injuries that western medical has no cure and just kept charging with the fuck it why would I turn back now, full speed ahead till the wheels fall off mentality. We are all human regardless of the mindset we develop to manage pain and bodily dysfunctions. The reality is eventually the consequences that come with living a reckless risk taking lifestyle catch up with all of us. I have been pushing myself beyond the physical safe zone since I started to walk and once I discovered vehicles it was really on. Not all of my injuries have been from skateboarding but an accumulation of all the physical passions I’ve pursued with no reservations to ever play it safe, all in always. I don’t ever want to slow down so I’m doing everything can to keep it going. This neck injury is just one on my list that I’ve been praying for medical science to figure out along with other injury dilemmas which include severe cartilage degeneration in both of my knees and one of ankles. My only alternatives prior have been fusing C5-7 and total knee and ankle replacement. @bioxcellerator_ has had major success with disc and cartilage regeneration using their progressive approach to stem cell therapy. It all seems too good to be true but we are limited in the USA to what the FDA will allow/endorse which minimizes our access to the most groundbreaking medical discoveries to date. This isn’t the first time I’ve had to travel abroad for medical treatment and it won’t be the last. I plan to share the results from this joint regeneration exploration and hope I can share with others in need and provide hard data on the most cutting edge treatment solutions that actually work. I’ve decided to just turn my athletic career into one big experiment.

Not sure if you can see what’s going on here but this is a CT scan of my neck showing loss of curve, 2 crushed discs C5-7, bone spurring and serious narrowing of the spinal canal. This is one of the many situations I’ve had to deal with most of my adulthood/ career with no tangible solution. I did this hitting the sandbar surfing when I was 18. I’ve accepted the injuries that western medical has no cure and just kept charging with the fuck it why would I turn back now, full speed ahead till the wheels fall off mentality. We are all human regardless of the mindset we develop to manage pain and bodily dysfunctions. The reality is eventually the consequences that come with living a reckless risk taking lifestyle catch up with all of us. I have been pushing myself beyond the physical safe zone since I started to walk and once I discovered vehicles it was really on. This was just following the first xgames in 1995 so skateboarding was still really underground in this era and it was pretty surreal to all of us back then we were a part of the Olympics in some sort of way. I think we knew skateboarding would be in the Olympics someday but it’s crazy its now the most anticipated event for the upcoming Tokyo Games. This wouldn’t of been possible without @espn @xgames 25 years of commitment to skateboarding, that’s what drove it to a level it had enough mainstream recognition to even be acknowledged by the Olympics. I know how controversial the Olympics have been in endemic skate culture but it’s pretty amazing how much skateboarding has accomplished and how much it’s impacted the world 🌎 #fbf

I had been fantasizing about riding for Powell and shortly after Bucky and I met we were on a train together heading up to Santa Barbara to the Powell headquarters to get some boards. We end up skating the Powell mini ramp for a day or so then the next thing I know we were both in @saiz5412 van with @mikevallely and @robwashburn driving to meet @chris_borst_ at a ramp in the middle of nowhere, located in the mountains between Santa Barbara and Bakersfield. This ramp was owned by a rich retired doctor who was a bit crazy but had this built for his son who had nothing to do out there and no one to skate it with. The doctor was always welcoming but it came with a cost. This guy made everyone do heavy chores around his property to skate but this was a very good ramp for the era so we all did what we had to for access. I remember getting ready to skate and all of a sudden Stacy Peralta @peraltastacy pulls up to film Bucky, and the other team riders for the new upcoming Powell movie and I instantly became super star struck nervous. With Stacy now behind the camera filming I knew this was my golden moment to make a good impression so I pulled it together and gave it my all. It seemed like things were pointing towards me joining the team but I hadn’t been told I was officially on by anyone yet. Stacy ended up filming us both all day and turned this into a segment with Bucky and I which is awesome to look back at now because of how much this video meant for us both. This was the catalyst moment that ignited both of our careers. I remember Stacy coming up to me after the session and saying welcome to the Bones Brigade which was so surreal and I was just blown away!! 🙏

This wave pool movement is surreal, I caught more really fun waves in one day than I have in the last decade. Surfing in the wild verse the efficiency of the pool surfing is just like the time invested in street skating verse park skating, no need to wait around in the water hoping to catch a good one or driving around looking for spots all day unless you really want to .. @thepalmspringssurfclub makes me so happy 😀 @redtide83 @kalanirobb @boysensurfboards

Ken and I starting living together in the early 90s and we both got really into riding and racing motocross. Early on we became really good friends with @rynoglobal and we would always find ourselves trying to keep up with the level of jump magnitude we were witnessing/caught up in. I know Ken and I had no business jumping the distances we did but when your riding sand dunes with a guy as crazy and talented as Ryan you better be careful, looks fun flying from one mountain dune to another like Ryno but one mistake and it’s a wrap. This was the end such an amazing day of riding and I will never forget how much fun we had together. I remember we were so happy that none of us got really hurt. Couple minor crashes but no trips to the hospital is a win in this game 🙏 @photoballard #43forever

Damon and I were on the same path of someday becoming pro skateboarders rivaling hard at times but for some reason the higher power had a different plan for Damon. His role in the skate culture/ skate industry led to an empire of innovations. A cosmic event happened and changed Damons life path forever and changed our dynamic as bothers. Damon and I were always competing / rivaling against each other every day then a shift happened. It’s crazy Damon saw the opportunity of entrepreneurialship at age 18 and took on a role of building the businesses around my career and my skate culture peers . Damon and RIP @kblock43 were the pioneers of skater owned , founded and funded apparel and footwear brands. Damon also had the vision before anyone to converge art , fashion , music and skateboarding lifestyle into an apparel / footwear line and literally kicked off the whole street wear and skate shoe brand movement of the early 90s . If it wasn’t for Damon so many brands you know of today would never have been inspired or existed without the model proven and seeing how it was done first. My brother has been such a pioneer in the back drop of the skateboarding industry that became a major influencer to all action sport cultures but mostly music relevance, street art and pop culture fashion trends , even high fashion brands like Louis Vuitton has become aware of how critical street wear culture is and how these brands have such on influence with mainstream fashion trends and staying relevant.
